Work is underway to transform our beautiful Grade II listed building into a modern, vibrant and bustling market. The plans to transform the market are part of the City Centre Masterplan and the improved market will be a key retail and community hub in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter.

Our construction team have already built the first stage of the roof level platform under the roof to allow the restoration team to carry out their work. Put end to end, the scaffolding would stretch 12 miles – a distance equivalent from Pride Park Stadium in Derby to the City Ground in Nottingham!

We have worked closely with our contractors to ensure the market is open and operating normally while the roof work is taking place. There will be some noise heard while the work goes on to complete the scaffolding about the first roof platform and this is completely normal. All of our traders are open, including all of the businesses on the balcony and the public toilets.
